2013

I'm excited to get this blog back on track in 2013. So many fun memories to add and so many goals to set for the new year!!

Napa Valley

BUCKET LIST: Slow Down and Visit Old Favorites

Brandon and I love to travel. We love to experience new people, places, views, smells, tastes. All of it. We often fit as much as we can into a single trip because we just want to see it all. Of course we plan time for relaxing but I realize this doesn't bring the same quality as soaking in each moment and only moving onto something else once you have your fill. I can't say I have ever traveled this way because of the three kids I am traveling with or if they are left at home, the ones I need to return to before they are traumatized by my absence. One day though, Brandon and I will pick a place and just take it in for weeks or maybe months at a time. I want to see places as a local would see them. My dream is to one day be a local in a foreign country. Sooner than later would be ideal. I want to learn the beautiful tongues of the world, sample the majesty of foreign landscapes, learn about the history that has made this world so raw and so beautiful. I want to connect with humanity and discover the thread that weaves us all together. I want to do it all and as I plan out the journey ahead, I will proceed with baby steps by slowing down and taking it all in...

We recently celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary in Napa (where we also celebrated our fifth anniversary but lost all pictures to a hard drive crash) and made a point to pick three wineries and just soak them up. Robert Sinskey, Castello Di Amorosa and our favorite Domaine Carneros. We walked downtown Napa, ate at some amazing restaurants and bathed in the sun on the patios at each of our three wineries. We did of course drive the length of Napa to Calistoga, (twice), because that is just too much beauty to pass up. Oh, and we toured the Culinary Institute of America (maybe I'm not so good on this slowing down thing.) Must return again soon! Next time to a bed and breakfast in St Helena with bicycles.

Are You There?

I love to see that people are starting to visit my blog. It's been a crazy feeling to put a part of me out there for the world to see. Leave a comment on my wall (to the right) or below and let me know who is here and what you think. I'd love to know if you have a bucket list of your own or how you keep track of your goals as well as your hearts desires. (Different sometimes, aren't they?)

Coffee Karma

BUCKET LIST: Pay For a Stranger's Coffee
March 2012

Although this is a small act in itself, I have been wanting to pay for the coffee of the car behind me for years. Yet, between chatting with my passengers, breaking up a fight between kids or if by unusual blissful circumstance I had been alone, I was probably lost in a daydream. Whatever the reason, I had not fulfilled my desire to spread a little coffee karma until today.

As I paid for the coffees and looked in my rear view mirror at my unsuspecting benefactor, I couldn't help but think about her day. Where had she been? Where was she going? Was she happy? In some small way I felt connected to this woman and thought about the possible ripple effect that this one kind deed could bring.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST - February 23, 2012

"I will not die an unlived life. I will not live in fear of falling or catching fire. I choose to inhabit my days, to allow my living to open me, to make me less afraid, more accessible, to loosen my heart until it becomes a wing, a torch, a promise. I choose to risk my significance; to live so that which comes to me as seed goes to the next as blossom and that which comes to me as blossom, goes on as fruit."
-Dawna Markova
